Aquarius Prototype Entry 1

Hello everyone,

This is my very first devlog post. Yesterday I have started a new project which will be called Aquarius for now. It'll probably change later.

The game is set on a barren planet, with one alien lifeform made of long vines and beautiful flowers. Humans have been send to the planet to terraform it to a more hospitable place, none have returned. The alien vines have found their way to a dead astronaut, which it uses to change the planet back from barren to a place full of life.

I did some game design yesterday but I figured the game would shape itself while under development, so with the idea on paper I opened up unity and got to work! I set up a test level, got a character running around, got some jumping action and afterwards I made sure these controls felt right, since I think its an important aspect of the game. I was thinking about the melee attack I wanted, and I figured something like the whip from Castlevania would be cool, so I chose that. I also wanted a game mechanic which could be used either as a puzzle element and a defense tactic. It got me thinking and I made a vine that you can grow out of your body, and you can use it to climb over obstacles but also defend yourself from enemies. I am thinking about linking the vine length to the player health eventually.

Today I had less motivation to get coding, and I really wanted to crank up my art skills. I opened photoshop and decided on creating a sprite for the player. It was quite hard, but what was even more difficult was to get a decent looking walking animation. I do not have much experience as a pixel artist, but I got something to work eventually.

I still don't have much inspiration for coding yet, so I think I will fill in the next of my schedule with game design, since I didnt do enough yesterday.

Thanks for tagging along!
